Important Dates

The next start date for the online MSECE program is August 14, 2023.

Required Application Materials

The online application can be completed here.

The application fee may be paid online when you submit your application:

  • Domestic Students: $55
  • International Students: $65

Important Note: While the online MSECE degree offers application extensions, applicants who submit after the university term deadline will be subject to the $30 late fee.

Office of Admissions deadlines are:

  • Fall Semester: April 1
  • Spring Semester: November 1

Official GRE Scores

Scores should be sent from ETS directly to:

  • The University of Utah – ETS code: 4853
  • ECE Department – ETS code: 1203

Applicants are expected to meet the following minimum GRE scores:

  • Quantitative score: 158
  • Analytical writing: 3.5
  • Verbal score: 150

Applicants who fail to meet minimum GRE scores are not automatically disqualified from admission; each application is considered in full.

GRE Waiver

Graduates from the University of Utah Electrical and Computer Engineering bachelor’s program or an ABET-accredited engineering program may obtain a GRE waiver.

Education History

For all post-secondary schools attended, provide:

  • Name of Institution
  • Dates of attendance
  • Degrees earned or expected
  • GPA
  • Transcripts / Academic Records
    • Unofficial transcripts must be uploaded directly to the online application
    • Upload any relevant diplomas or certificates if they have been awarded but are not listed on your transcript
    • If any of your credentials are not in English, include English translations
    • If you are admitted, you will be required to have all institutions send official copies of your transcripts directly to the University of Utah during your first term of enrollment

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in engineering or a related field such as physics or mathematics. Students who do not hold a BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering will need to satisfy proficiency requirements.

  • Minimum GPA: 3.2

One-to-two pages describing:

  • The applicant’s personal background
  • Research interests
  • Reasons for pursuing a graduate degree in Utah’s ECE department

Upload a current résumé or curriculum vitae detailing all relevant work history and research experience

  • Identify three people who are familiar with your academic or professional experience and qualifications
  • All recommendations must be completed online
  • Applicants are only required to provide contact information; we will contact providers directly to submit their recommendations through our online system
