The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Utah welcomes students from around the world. Nearly half of the students pursuing a Master of Science in the department come from outside the U.S. If you’re an international student interested in the online Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering program, you must meet the admissions requirements for all applicants and also fulfill the following criteria:
Translated Transcripts
- Applicants must include copies of their transcripts from all post-secondary institutions they have attended with their online application
- If the transcripts are in a language other than English, the student must provide official English translations
English Proficiency Requirement
To demonstrate English proficiency, international applicants must submit either TOEFL or IELTS scores
TOEFL
- A score of 100 is typical for admitted students.
- Applicants who score lower than 80 are ineligible for admission
- Send scores to the University of Utah – ETS code: 4853
IELTS
- A score of 7.5 is typical for admitted students
- Applicants who score lower than 6.5 are ineligible for admission
- Submit the University of Utah address to the center where you took the test
- International applicants do not need to submit proof of English proficiency if they are
- Native speakers of English who are citizens of Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland)
- Continuing students who currently enrolled at the University of Utah and moving from one degree level to another, or from one program to another following a break of no longer than two years
- The TOEFL or IELTS exam requirements are also waived for:
- Applicants who have graduated with a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university within two years of admittance
- Applicants who score lower than 6.5 are ineligible for admission
- Applicants who have completed a bachelor’s degree or higher from a college or university in Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland)
